I Might Like It If There Is Some Balling Involved

Ed has been talking about taking a month or two off and ever since he's made that declaration, I have been looking for places to go. My Aunt was recently talking about going to Naples, Florida which prompted me to look at Sanibel and Captiva Islands since they are right on the Gulf. I found a few really nice places, one of which has guest rooms that open right to the beach.

"So have you had any thoughts on where we're going to go for our time off?" I said to Ed.

"I don't know, but Florida is going to be hot...and ball me." he said.

"Ball me?" I said, thinking I was being propositioned.

"Yeah. Ball me. B-A-L-M-Y." he said.

"Baby, it's pronounced bomb-y. Like lip balm. You don't include the L." I told him.

"Yes you do." he said.

"No. You don't. It's not ball me. It's bommy. You say it quick sort of, so you don't hear the actual "L" in the word." I said.

"Well, whatever. It's still going to be hot. And you're not gonna like it."

Yeah I was going to say that I say the L. It's a slight L but it's there nonetheless and I can see the "ball me" confusion.

I agree with Paul's advice ;)

No confusion. We're men... our subsconscious is like a millimeter deep. Sanibel Island? Ball me!

Paul - Well, I liked your first comment before you removed it, stating that I was right! But listening to that clip, I still don't hear the "L"!! lol

MAE - Yes, he does have a sweet accent - that might account for the "different" way he says it.

Michelle - OK, OK, so you say the "L" too? Gee, thanks!

I guess I just have to go with I'm a New Yorker and he's a Texan....hence the difference in pronounciation. Although, Merriam Webster does have the pronounciation listed both ways.

Ugh.

Pronounce it any way you like, I don't consider this "balmy". Balmy is what we get at Thanksgiving when the rest of the country is shivering. This? Is just nasty nasty humidity. The only thing I hear about *ahem* anything pertaining to balls is that they stick. (And I work with almost all men, so believe me, I hear it.)
