If Only The Streets Were Truly Paved With Gold

Ed and I were talking today about the state of unemployment and how so many people, including some we know, are either out of work or not getting as many hours or miles (in trucking) as they need.

"Pretty soon," he said, "people will have such a hard time finding any kind of employment, that they'll be out on the streets panning for gold."

"You mean panhandling?" I said.

He laughed. "Yeah, that's what I meant; panhandling."

"Because if people were panning for gold in the streets, I'm thinking they might just be doing a little better than they were at the job they lost."
