Sweet Sixteen Heartthrob

Ask any girl around my age (49) who they remember from the movie Sixteen Candles, and I'll bet not one person will say, Molly Ringwald.

The only acceptable answer to this question is, of course, Jake Ryan.

Jake Ryan, played my Michael Schoeffling, was the hottest guy that year.  If you're like me, you've seen the movie about a million times.  And the part where you always hold your breath comes when Jake Ryan leans over the birthday cake and kisses Samantha. Swoon.

Most of the cast has been seen over the years in other films and TV movies.  But Michael Shoeffling only did a few more movies and disappeared.  He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA and internet searches turn up information about him living and working nearby in Newfoundland, PA.  Those same online sources say he owns a woodworking shop there.

When Michael Schoeffling made Sixteen Candles, he was 23.  Molly Ringwald was 15.  I was 17 if that matters.  He's now married to a woman named Valerie and has two children, Scarlett and Zane.

I don't know much about Zane, but Scarlett is a model and I follow her on Instagram. She's as beautiful as her father was handsome (and her mother is beautiful, too, no surprise) and if you pay attention to her posts, every once in a while she'll throw in some personal photos of her parents, like this one:

Michael Schoeffling really left the Hollywood life.  He doesn't do interviews and there are no current photos of him anywhere.  At least none anyone's been able to find.  But through Scarlett's posts, we're able to see the actor of our teenage dreams living his life as a husband and father, where it's clear that he's still beloved.

We heart you, Jake Ryan.  And we always will.

I am in love with the movie 16 candles , I love this view that I finally found . I even named my own child Jake Ryan . His looks were always great , but in the movie his shy image and his personality is wonderful. I am proud of him and what he has made of his life and love . Thanks for the info !
