This is one of the many roadside shrines - or descansos, as they're called in Spanish - we see throughout the country. This type, with more color, multiple candles, flowers, personal objects, seem to be very prevalent in areas with a large Hispanic population.
I'm planning on writing more about these memorials in the future, because traveling the highways for almost thirteen years now, they've always been of interest to me.
