Yes, it named after a former county commissioner or something like that. Actually, I live on Fangboner Road in Fremont, OH.

Every time my wife and I drive by that sign, we have to make a funny little finger puppet like move, and funny little sounds. :)

The name comes from John Fangboner who moved to Fremont and started a livestock and feed business after the Civil War. He was Vice President of the National Bank of Fremont and Auditor of Sandusky County. He had three children (two by Ellen Hensel of Lindsey and one by Emma Faller of Fremont). His son, Irvin T. Fangboner, married into the Dillon family (who had married into the family of General Ralph P. Buckland) and continued to work in the seed business. His two sons, Harold and Robert, continued the Fangboner Seed Company with an uncle and a cousin.

Hi! I'm also from Fremont, Ohio, and I never gave a thought to Fangboner Road--it was just there. I read about it after becoming an adult--I must agree with Anonymus as far as historical facts go--I believe he got it right.

DEBBIE: Clearly, as a 46 year old woman I still have a part of my mind that thinks like a 15-year old boy. Or at least it did when I saw that sign! LOL

You are not alone, my girlfriend and I have a chuckle about it every time we drive by it, as well as a number of friends. 15-year old boys, unite!

Brought here by Fangboner...not a juvenile comment. My wife and I are 50 and always laugh when we pass the sign. We are also from NY so maybe that says something :) Great Blog BTW

ANONYMOUS: Glad you and your wife find it funny! And thanks for taking the time to read the blog and comment. I found a picture online (since I didn't get one at the time) and added it to the post. :)

My band is called Fangboner!
By definition a "Fangboner" is an event that is completely spontaneous, never to recur again.
We perform songs that are completely improvised on the spot!

RICK FALLER: I *love* what you can find out on the internet! LOL As I travel through the country, I often wonder where name places come from. And it's always cool to hear from people to have connections to names or places. Thanks for commenting!

FANONE BAND: I never heard that definition of fangboner. Well, before I saw this sign, I never even heard the name/word "fangboner" uttered. LOL I like the concept of your band. That's gotta be a great show, songs improvised on the spot. What a great idea!
