We Got Fatter But We Lost Weight

How is it possible to be fatter yet weigh less, you ask? Well, if this were an application for humans that I invented, I'd be swaying in a hammock right now with a half-naked cabana boy refilling my iced latte while I count my money.

But since I'm not talking about humans and since I didn't invent it, I'll let you in on the secret.

Super singles.

We just installed
Michelin X One Tires on our truck and trailer. So technically, we're no longer an "18-wheeler", we're a "10-wheeler". The reason we "lost weight" is because the singles weigh less than the duals.

Not only have we shed hundreds of pounds, but we're also going to get better fuel mileage. And better fuel mileage means we will spend less money on fuel per year. How much, you ask? Well, Ed estimates that by having these tires, we'll save between $12,000.00 and $15,000 a year.

We may have lost a few wheels, but it looks like we've gained more vacation money! Although I'm not sure that's what Ed had in mind!

I am not knowledgable about truck tires but with two if one goes flat you still have the other partner to ride on don't you?

June: Yes, you do have another tire to ride on, but depending on how heavy your load is, you really shouldn't drive too far on a flat or blown tire. It doesn't happen very often and the fuel savings and the weight savings are worth sitting around while waiting for help to arrive! :)

Tell us how they work out -- I'm curious!

Ed Anne (my wife) thinks that my grandparents had more room in the steerage section of the steamships that they took from Italy to New York in the early 1900s than we get in the tourist section of a modern airplane!!!

Salena, I love your blog! After reading this post, I read your post about your truck, and I was amazed by that giant cabin on your Coronado. My husband and I are in a 2005 W900 now and we were thinking we'd upgrade to the new EPA 2010 W900, but I wanted to investigate the Coronado, Too. Are you still loving yours? Do you have any words of wisdom to share, or know any other Coronado owners that might? It sure is a beautiful truck, although we might not go for quite that much cabin!"

This is pretty interesting, and I'll be looking into it more for our trucks here at work, thanks!

Anonymous: I'll report on the tires as we learn more. We've heard some pretty good things about them!

Gil: I think I'd like to go back to the days Anne is talking about! :)

Gloria: Email me at salenalettera@gmail.com and I'll tell you all you want to know!

I know this post is old, but hope you will see this comment. I want to know how the super singles worked out, and if you still have them on your truck and trailer?
