Today is my friend Mike Goldenberg's 52nd birthday. We've been friends for more than 24 years. He lives across the country from me now, but we still keep in touch regularly - mostly phone calls, sometimes texts.
We worked together at the Westin La Paloma resort in Tucson. He was my boss, and according to him, I was the best employee he's ever had.
This photo was obviously taken at a Halloween party. His house, 1993. My friend Tami is the witch on the left, he's in the middle yukking it up, and I'm the one on the right dressed as a very convincing Carmen Miranda. I was 26, Mike was 28. No one at the party knew who I was supposed to be her, they all thought I was the Chiquita Banana lady.
I made that costume by hand, without a pattern. The top, the skirt, the giant (very heavy!) fruit hat. To date, it's the best costume I've ever created. At the hotel, strangers stopped me and asked if they could take a picture with me. I was famous for a night!
Oh, those were days. Such fun!! And so many memories made with my friend Mike.
Happy Birthday, Goldie!!
