Watch Closely Now

Last night I watched A Star Is Born, the 1976 movie with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.  It's probably my favorite Streisand movie ever, I've seen it more times than I can coun, and I love Kris Kristofferson in it.  He's broken, but beautiful.

This is the third remake of this story, and its most sucessful one.  Streisand and Kristofferson have incredible chemistry, and you can feel they have love for each other but their relationship, although sexy and passionate, is volatile and sad and heartwrenching.  And the end of the movie makes me cry every time.  The song stays with me for days.

It was filmed in Arizona - Downtown Tucson, the Tucson Community Center, Sonoita, and the
Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe for the big concert scene.  Seeing landmarks in Tucson, filmed over thirty-five years ago is really cool.  And the landscape in Sonoita hasn't changed at all.

I can't count how many times over the years I've seen this movie.  I've owned the soundtrack for years and I know every word to every song on it.  In fact, in 1977 when my family was vacationing in the Adirondacks, I sang several of the songs on talent night.  I was 10 years old.

I've loved Barbra for as long as I can remember.  The first songs I memorized and sang were hers.  And I've seen every movie she's ever made.  These are some of my other favorites:

Yentl

The Main Event

Funny Girl

The Mirror Has Two Faces

The Prince of Tides

Nuts

Hello, Dolly!

It's no wonder why she's "one of the most commercially and critically successful entertainers in modern entertainment history".

Love this post. Two of my favorites aren't listed: The Way We Were (I really don't care for a lot of it, but when they break up and she calls "Hubble" because he's her best friend and she needs to talk...That always makes me cry!) And then...of course, the ending scene!
Also, have you ever seen The Owl and The Pussycat with George Segal? I LOVE it. I don't think it's very well known, but I think it's a riot!

BECKY: You know, I've seen "The Way We Were" but I'm not in LOVE with it, so I didn't add it. And I have heard of "The Owl and The Pussycat" but I haven't seen it. The only thing I know about it is that lingerie ensemble she wears, with the handprints on the breasts. That's all I see. LOL Now I'm going to have to watch it! Thanks for bringing it to my attention again.
