The Only Way To Enjoy Texas

Holed up in a hotel for the weekend.  My favorite way to escape the heat of Texas.

We have no bikes because our interim trailer doesn't have a storage box for them, but it's really too hot anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter.  We contemplated going to an outdoor festival but I nixed it after coming out of the grocery store with a soaking wet head.  It was so hot in the store sweat was dripping down my face.

Just from buying cantaloupe.

We might hit the hotel pool tomorrow.  I'll probably last about four minutes before heading back into the air-conditioned room.  I'm pretty sure that's not enough time to get a tan, right?

Boy, I sure hope there's something good on Showtime.

$500 a day! Are you renting the penthouse? Sorry about the heat.

GIL: I wish!! That's what they call "rack rate", which is rarely ever charged but they print it on the doors just in case you refuse to leave the room at the rate you're paying - which is far less - they'll let you stay, but bump you up to rack. At least that's how it worked when I was in the hotel biz.

Interesting about the rack rate. Did not know that.

Stay cool! Hope there's some good stuff on TV and Amazon for you.

PS: please tell me that is not a door to a room you are actually staying in.

The two worst hotel rooms I ever experienced just happen to have been in Texas. How does that happen?

(One I escaped moments after seeing the room; online commenters were griping about bedbugs and I did not want to take the chance, much as it was kind of a historic property, although past its better days.)

Chill. Ciao.

BELLEDOG: Yeah, a little thing I picked up from my hospitality days. I wonder if they even still do that. In any case, that's what the printed rate is supposed to represent.

As for the door - no, it doesn't look like that. I altered it in a iPhone app to make it look more interesting. LOL The room is really quite nice - pretty lobby, free breakfast, free wifi, desk in the room, king sized bed. I have a certain standard with hotel rooms. It doesn't have to be 4-star by any means, but it does have to be on the very nice side. I don't like scuzzy places. Ed usually looks at the room before he even books it - he knows how picky I am. :) Ciao!

The best way I have found to enjoy Texas is looking at it thru the rear view mirror.

ANONYMOUS: I agree with you one hundred percent!!

I was gonna say! Whose room was that in? It wasn't mine.
