I Prefer IPY To DIY

We've been watching waaaaay too many HGTV renovation shows lately, because I don't know what the hell I was thinking when we made the decision to renovate my mother's kitchen.

My mother, after watching waaaaay too many of these HGTV shows herself drops the word "reno" into her conversation like she's a contractor.  "Before we start the reno, we have to make sure to we have all the materials we need so we don't have to keep making trips back to Home Depot." and "I bought gloves to wear when we're doing the reno on the cabinets so we don't get the paint stripper on our hands."

OK, mom.  We'll remember that when we're doing the "reno".

I'm crafty and creative.  I like doing projects like sewing dolls, creating custom Easter eggs and Christmas ornaments, decorating little boxes to hold trinkets, fashioning a Halloween costume out of fabric scraps and whatever else was on hand, cooking.

But DIY projects that involve screwdrivers, paint stripper, manual sanding, and 90-degree weather?  Again, I must have been out of my mind to agree to this.  I don't do physical labor.  I abhor sweating.  And I can't stand to get dirty.

But we've started the ball rolling with the cabinet door removal, so we'll just see where this goes.  I do have a backup plan that involves a contractor doing the work, which I'm already thinking is the better idea.

I call it IPY - I'll Pay You.

I agree about IPY. But don't you have A/C in your house?

GIL: Yes, we have A/C in the house but the stripping and sanding was done outside. I am thankful though that it wasn't a sunny day - because that would have been sheer torture. I'd have given up. LOL
