The Alien Cowboy Capital Of The World

 

We spent last weekend in the Dallas area visiting with Ed's family.  While we were there, we took a ride down to Stephenville to visit his mom's gravesite and see the new headstone that had been installed since we were there for the funeral in December 2022.

We went for lunch at The Purple Goat and drove around a bit since the last time we were there, we didn't really have any time to see the town.  Ed's mother was born in Stephenville.  She lived here in her youth, after she got married, and during the early years of raising her children. 

Here's a picture of the Erath County Courthouse in the middle of downtown.  It was built in 1891 and is constructed with local white limestone and red Pecos sandstone.

And here's a photo of College Street, also downtown.

Overall, it's a cute little town and a pretty area.  The drive from the Metroplex was really nice.  Very scenic.  A lot of ranches, animals, and lush greenery. The area grew after it became an agricultural and livestock center.  It was also known for coal mining.  Ranching must still be the industry in the area because there's not much else in the way of businesses.  

So, we visited the cemetery where Ed's mom is and then drove around the town she called home.  It was a lovely day.
