How A Book Defies Its Cover

This woman, Susan Boyle, a 47-year-old virgin living from Scotland who lives with her cat, sang "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserables on Britain's Got Talent. She had me on the edge of my seat, my body just filling with joy. One theater producer said, "Vocally it is one of the best versions of the song I've ever heard."

This YouTube clip is a little bit longer, showing more of a lead-in before she takes the stage. I loved seeing the audience and their reaction and then the judges, and how their faces spoke volumes. Of course, as usual, I just LOVE Simon. I love all kinds of music and I love to feel something when I hear a song or watch a performance.

This is one of those performances. It moved me.

If Paul Potts, the first winner of Britain's Got Talent is any example, then it looks like Susan Boyle may be destined for the same fate.

Thank you so much for posting this. I found out about Susan, but had no idea about Paul Potts. What treasures they both are!
I LOVE your new format. I always ended up with underlines on everything. Glad that is over!

OMG! Goosebumps doesn't even begin to describe the effect this woman and her talent had on me. I'd heard about this woman on the XM radio somewhere the other day. I didn't realize she wasn't a "looker" or that people were so skeptical before she opened her mouth to sing.

Fantastic. Inspiring. The most talent I've ever seen on any "reality" show ever!

Thanks for sharing sweets!

I was reluctant to watch the link to the video that was first sent to me as I do not enjoy the type of music she was sure to sing. I had never seen the "talent" shows before and was amazed at the rude looks and actions of the audience when she was talking. I felt so bad for her and then when she started singing I almost also started to cry how uplifting that was! In those few minute she changed the rest of her life was I glad I finally listed to that clip.

ALB: Yes, it's always good to have a reminder about our dreams and such...

Fandango: Can you believe - a cell phone salesman? It's just amazing that there are people out there doing regular 'ol jobs and they have talent like THAT.

Gi-Gi: I know! Goosebumps for sure. I think I've listened to it 10 times already - Ed is getting tired of hearing it. And isn't it interesting when you hear something on XM and have a completely different take on it precisely because you DIDN'T see the person?

Caffee: I'm so glad you took the plunge and listened! I had never seen this talent show before either and I was just as amazed with how blatantly obvious the audience and even the judges were with their skepticism, based solely on her appearance. And although I do like some Broadway tunes, I didn't know this one, and I had just commented to Ed after I watched it that, even if you're someone who doesn't like this kind of music, if you appreciate music in any way at ALL, there is no way you can't be moved by this rendition.

Sometimes I just drop by to listen to this again. Still makes me kinda tear up a little. What an amazing voice.

Hedon,

Me too! I love when she begins and Simon's eyebrows raise at hearing her. I have the song downloaded on my iPod, but I actually wish I could have gotten a version of her singing it - I like it better than the original Les Miserables cast member.

Truly amazing.
