We Have Our Very Own Air-Conditioned Theater

We spent the weekend sleeping late and trying to escape the oppressive North Carolina heat.  We did venture out into the heat a few times - laundry, Barnes & Noble, haircuts, and dining out - it was so hot even Ed complained.  And he never complains about the heat.

We also watched quite a few movies. And when I say we watched movies, I mean we raided Redbox for new releases. These are the flicks we saw this weekend:

Kingsman: The Secret Service:  Had I known this was based on a comic book series, I wouldn't have rented it.  It started out okay, then went off the rails into a realm of stupid I don't enjoy.

Woman in Gold:  This was a fantastic movie and Helen Mirren was wonderful, as usual.  True story based on the fight Maria Altmann has with the government of Austria to reclaim Gustav Klimt's painting of her aunt, Adele Bloch-Bauer.  The painting currently hangs in the Neue Galerie in New York City.

'71:  "Posh cunts telling thick cunts to kill poor cunts."  Although this movie dealt with the British in Northern Ireland during The Troubles - a part of history I really have no knowledge of - this line from the movie pretty much sums up how most wars seem to be started and controlled.  We liked the movie.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown:  Based on the Texarkana Moonlight Murders and bringing a current day element to it, this was a gory slasher flick.  Ed picked this one, but it's really not my kind of movie.

Focus:  Entertaining con artist action.  Oh, and Margot Robbie was gorgeous through the entire thing.

Survivor:  I don't even know what the hell this was about. One woman tries to stop a terrorist attack?  Dumb.  And Pierce Brosnan is scary mean.

While We're Young:  I really liked this movie. A middle-aged couple meets and befriends a young, hip couple that energizes them and draws them into their fun, young world. Entertaining, funny, true-to-life in many scenes.  My favorite line was, "Let's just not know."  The foursome was trying to remember what "almond flavored pigs and fruits" were made of, the older guy immediately pulled out his iPhone and wanted to Google it. The younger couple stopped him and said, "Let's just not know what it is."  I kinda like that. As much as I love to know everything instantaneously, sometimes I like to try to figure it out first.  All old school and shit. Of course, I immediately blurted out "Marzipan!" to the screen.

The Loft:  Five guys share a secret penthouse loft in the city so they can have sex with women who aren't their wives. Then a woman turns up dead. The message was either don't cheat on your wife, or don't expect four other guys to cover up your murder.  Kinda dumb.

Tomorrow we're back on the road!
